These amateur snapshots from the bisexual-queer poet Finnegan's
friend Bart and show his take on NYC's 2006 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Pride Parade, Festival and Fireworks Display.
Bart is from Holland and is a painter, squatter's rights activist and a Queeruption person. This is his first visit to the US and he had only been in this country for less than a month when the photo's were taken.
It is very interesting because in addition to the cutie-pies (of both genders!) and the usual colourful characters at any LGBT Pride Festival, Bart also finds such quintessential American figures as Cowboys & Indians and Cheerleaders as well as just ordinary folks of every gender, ethnic and racial background, age, etc.
Also there are other images of America equally true but a bit less flattering, such as a constant and heavily armed police presence, consumerism, perhaps an overly indulgent amount of food and a bit of a wasteful throw-away culture.
But in the end none of it is meant unkindly, they are just a tourist's observations after all, and a good time was had by everyone.
